What Are Bed Bugs?
Bed bugs are insects that drink blood from other creatures. There are lots of different types of bed bugs, but the one we care about is the type that drinks our blood. These slimy creatures are mostly found in carpets, mattresses, books, clothes, or any other part of the bedroom. The reason why you don't often see bed bugs is because they emerge from their hiding places at night when you're fast asleep to feed on your blood. After they've finished feeding on you, they go back to those nooks and crannies in your bed and furniture until they get hungry again.
Although bed bugs have become a reason for great distress all around the world, there are many precautions that can be taken. Be prompt in reacting to an potential bed bug problem as it can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Bed bugs can be difficult to detected. Often, people detected infestations when they wake up to bed bug bites. However, bites may not necessarily mean bed bugs - it could be a mosquito instead - but, to be safe, check your sheets and mattress for signs of bed bugs e.g. dark stains.
Firstly, you must check all corners of your home with a bright flashlight for any possible bed bugs. Your bed is an obvious place to harbor bed bugs as they are attracked to the carbon dioxide that you emit. The second important thing is to clean your home carefully. When washing linen, you should always wash it in hot water. A vacuum can suck up bed bugs or their eggs, but make sure to seal up the vacuum bag and to throw it away. The cleaning calls for thorough inspection, and you need to clean every item in your house, and empty out closets and drawers and scrub and clean them properly.
Kill all bed bugs you see by using rubbing alcohol or bleach or call a pest control service. Make sure that you seal any trash bags when you clean your home to prevent bed bugs from escaping. Always follow any directions on pesticide bottles if you decide to use pesticides to supplement your cleaning. If you're not too sure about doing it yourself, and are afraid of skin exposure to chemicals, then it is advised that you hire commercial exterminators for this purpose.
There are various pesticides on the market that proclaim to kill bed bugs. You can buy bed bug spray, powders, and aerosol cans that say that they kill bed bugs. When using any chemicals that you buy, always read the label carefully and follow all the instructions that come with it. These chemicals may be harmful and dangerous if you don't stick to the instructions. Bed bugs can hide in a variety of places so make sure you get all those places with your spray. Turn the furniture and make sure that the insecticide reaches every part of every item in your house. If you find infestation, you can either treat it or get rid of the furniture or fabric. Throwing furniture away can be costly, though.
