1998 Jeep heater blows luke warm air, is heater core hard to remove?

A new Water Pump and thermosat were replaced yesterday. On every setting the Heater just blows luke warm air. Is the heater core hard to remove and get checked/flushed/replaced?

If it's a Wrangler, it's a full day's work to remove the heater core, I put a link below to give you an idea.

I doubt it's a bad heater core though. Was the heater working before you changed the pump and thermo?

Your temperature gauge should be coming up to about 210. If not you might have a thermostat with too low of a temp setting. Unless you have made significant mods to the engine causing it to run hotter than normal you should be running at least a 185 degree thermostat. Also check to see if your radiator fan is working properly. If it is a clutch type fan and is stuck, or if it is electric and constantly running, it would prevent your engine from reaching operation temp.

Check your radiator hoses, top and bottom. The upper hose should be hotter than the lower hose and check the radiator itself, it should be warm with no cold spots (that could indicate a clog). If you have a clogged radiator they can be pulled and cleaned by a radiator shop, better than trying to flush a clog your self (don't want to push the junk into the engine and clog the passages there)

Depending on what model of Jeep you have it could also be a bad water valve. On the Cherokee (XJ at least) there is a valve on the heater hoses near the firewall, they can get stuck and not fully open. You can open them by hand by grabbing the valve and moving it (I had this happen on my old XJ). On models like the Wrangler the water always flows through the core.

You could try to flush and re-fill your system, it's possible that it is clogged somewhere, again, the problem is that clogs tend to move elsewhere.

A final thing to check depending on the model is the temp slider or knob on the control panel, be sure it is actually moving the cable attached to it and look under the dash while someone moves it, listen and watch for the air door to move, a common break on Wranglers is the door actuator on the heater box, it has a plastic tab that breaks off, easy fix tho.
