Ignoring Zadroga Bill Puts Congress In The Crosshairs Of Stewart

Congress continues to be dismissing and delaying a bill called the Zadroga bill. The bill would use federal funding to cover health-related expenses of 9/11 rescue workers and survivors. Stewart has taken it on as a pet venture, though congress has pushed it to the backdrop. Congress is known for ignoring bills that do not win as much brownie points like tax cut bills.

Congress loses Zadroga bill

A bill nicknamed the Zadroga Bill that would provide aid to people who were rescue workers in the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 has been sitting on the Congressional backburner. James Zadroga is the New York police detective who died likely because of respiratory problems that happened while being at the scene of the World Trade Center, getting the Zadroga Bill named after him. The bill would make it so the 9/11 rescue workers that have health problems because of being there during the attacks would get the health care needed with $7 billion going into the bill. Republicans stalled the bill on the Senate floor after the House passed it, reports CNN.

Seeing a lot of sparks from the Daily Show host

ABC reports that host of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart, has been behind the bill. Stewart has been blasting Republicans for standing in the way of the bill. Senate Republicans have been claiming that the cost of providing health care to 9/11 responders and 9/11 survivors is just too high. Stewart devoted his last episode of the year to the bill, and lashed out at Republicans by saying that "the party that turned 9/11 into a catchphrase" had a "convenient pre-9/11 mentality when it comes to this bill."

The time is up

There aren't many days left to get the bill passed. This means it probably won't happen. No matter what the bill is, most Republicans don't want to pass any more spending bills while members of Congress are really looking forward to a holiday break. Congress passed a huge tax bill recently, which Stewart panned by saying that it was fantastic news for "firefighters that make $200,000 a year."
