No other weapon has lent itself to customization like the AR15. An entire industry has grown up to answer the needs of AR15 owners. Troy Industries are prominent in this industry. Troy command a large slice of the AR15 OEM part and accessory market too as well as delivering to manufacturers of other weapon systems.
Troy's back-up iron sights really made their name in the business and are the standard against which all others are compared. Machined from aluminium and secured with stainless steel fixings, Troy sights are designed to withstand use in harsh environments. The whole range of Troy Battle Sights is available in a Type III black or matte earth anodized finish. They have an A1 type L-shaped flip aperture to offer a large/small option. The two apertures are set to 300 and 500 meters respectively. The sights user the A1 adjustment system. The rear uses a coin or a bullet tip and the front the GI adjuster tool or Troy's own variant thereof. Clicks are 0.5 MoA.
For those who want an instant transition between optical and iron sights, Troy make non folding fore and rear sight units. All the front sights in Troy's range are avialable with M16 type ears or an HK style open topped circle arrangement which lends itself to easy centering on the target. They then move up to a flip system which folds down to only .460" high and is available in a standard height and low height version - the latter for ARs with gas piston systems which have higher receiver rails. They also make gas block versions of the foresights. Troy folding BUIS are very sleek when folded, lacking levers or other protrusions and lock in either up or down position with two very robust spring detent balls. The rearsights are supplied with either a conventional round aperture or 'Di-optic' Aperture (DOA) which features a diamond shaped aperture with a white line running from each corner for long range engagement and a broken topped aperture with a single white horizontal line for close range. This enables easier and more precise centering of the foresight for faster more accurate shooting. Night shooting can be facilitated by tritium dots, two of which can be supplied either side of the rear aperture and one on the front post.
Troy decided to make a quad rail that would be free floating and extend onward at the same height as the flat top receiver rail to obviate the use of a heavy cantilever mount. Non free floating versions are available that simply drop in in place of the standard handguard - the free floating versions clamp around the barrel nut. The Troy AR quad rail is available in various lengths for different length gas systems. Some require a low profile gas block and others incorporate holes for the existing foresight assembly. Fitting is made easy by two piece design and a very solid four bolt clamping arrangement. Again these units are available anodized in flat black or matte earth and sections of cover are also available, again in both colors. The rail slots are given alphanumeric codes picked out in white to allow the replacement of accessories in the same position and the whole unit is lightened with generous holes that also allow the dissipation of heat.
The world's militaries have rediscovered fore-grips over the last decade. Fore-grips allow far better control than horizontal fore-ends, especially in fast moving action. The Troy Combat Grip is a very robust and versatile unit. It secures solidly to the rail with a full length stainless steel locking bar and fore and aft cross slot bars. It contains a sealed storage compartment for batteries etc. and can be configured in full length of 'stubby' lengths. Again it is available in flat black or matte earth. In slippery conditions, grip is assisted by a knurled surface.
