Frequently Asked Questions...
Who do I call to service/inspect a water filtration system under my sink?
I'm pretty sure it's a reverse osmosis system, the type with the separate faucet over the sink that dispenses filtered water.
I would really like us to be able to use it, but ever since we bought this house 8 months ago, we haven't known whether it's safe to use, and have no idea who to call to inspect it. I don't think a plumber would have any idea about water filters, would they?
Answer:
Plumbers and Handymen are usually the folks who install these items. Get the brand and model number off of the unit, and you can call the manufacturer to find a Dealer in your area. If the Dealer happens to be a plumber or appliance store, then they may offer service on the units also. That is where I would suggest that you start.
My second choice would be to call the local plumber's and maybe even the local appliance or hardware stores, to see if they know anything about the unit, or who they could recommend that you have to come out and inspect it.
Most county Health offices will to the 'first' water sample test for free, they will give you the kit, or sell it to you for very little... I know you can also find these types of kits to send off to a lab by mail. The test usually consists of checking the water quality and purity. After the first test, it's normal for them to charge a few dollars to repeat it again later.
Good Luck
