Frequently Asked Questions...
What are some things that would go into a survival kit?
I only need things that would help me survive. The box I have to put all the stuff in is about the size of a altoids container. Yep, pretty small. so far in it I have:
Some bandages
a cut in half pencil
sticky notes
2 rubber bands
paper clip
a safety pin
a very shaper small blade
and a all in one, magnifying glass, thermometer, compass, and whistle on the backpack.
what else do I need?
Answer:
airman's magnesium fire starter & flint bar (found in any sporting goods, camping or outdoors store) the flint & steel makes big sparks, magnesium metal when shaved off in small bits is quite flammable and can easily start a fire.
a small multitool
a small folding knife (lose the small blade you already heave, you're liable to accidentally cut yourself with a knife without a handle) looking at 2-2.5 inches, no serrated, just a plain & simple sharp edge.
loose the sticky notes, they're too small to be useful.
ditch the rubber bands, replace with 550 paracord instead, at least 10 feet. or fishing line, 25 feet.
need 4 more paper clips. those things are really useful.
one piece of polished metal to polished its a handy mirror. also can be used for signalling.
a LED solar rechargeable key chain light. waterproof/seal it beforehand if you can.
loose the safety pin.
I'd probably go with a small cheap BIC pen then a pencil, it lasts longer and doesn't need to be ever sharpened.
one bit of wire saw, about 3 feet long. is used to cut wood and other soft materials like that. looks like regular steel wire but its has little teeth in the wire to make it a saw.
